Spring into Summer

Spring into Summer is a statewide campaign to promote physical activity in Iowa .....

Please contact our extended Wellness Works team if you have general questions or if you would be interested in service learning partnerships at your company ([email protected])

Overview and Approach

The primary programming strategy used in Wellness Works is service learning. Undergraduate students work with faculty and graduate students in the Physical Activity and Health Promotion Lab to plan, prepare and implement worksite wellness programming for ISU and other local companies.

Programming is directly tied to the HS 380: Worksite Health Promotion course. Each semester, students get hands-on experience competing in their own worksite wellness challenge by syncing Fitbits to the BSDI platform and completing a two week step challenge as if they were employees at a company. Students also utilize BSDI for health risk screening. Afterwards, students gain experience writing goals and objectives for an intended wellness program based off of the needs assessment that were revealed through the health risk screening. Students gain valuable experience in worksite programming and participating companies and employees receive direct benefits from the services provided by the students.
