Become a Cydekick

Undergraduate students can be trained to become Cydekicks through enrollment in KIN 4940 A&B: Practicum in Motivational Interviewing. The benefits are below:
  • Learn a collaborative, solution-focused, result-oriented communication skill
  • Gain practical experience in health coaching
  • Fulfill the practicum requirement needed to complete the new health coaching certificate
As a health coach you will help participants:
  • Identify overall goals for behavior change
  • Create and achieve small goals geared toward reaching the overall goal
  • Empower the participant to stay motivated and proactive
  • Encouraging and improving self-efficacy

How Does it Work?

The Training Builds in Phases With Additional Roles Evolving Over Time

Level 1: Train to become a CydeKick
  • Enroll in KIN 4940A (1 Credit) to train to become a CydeKick. The 4940A course is an online course with supplemental 'live intensive' training designed to build skills in motivational interviewing (MI).
  • Enroll in KIN 4940B (1-2 Credits) to build, apply and practice skills in MI with real clients. g

Level 2: Be a CydeKick Peer Mentor (1-2 semesters)
  • Enroll in additional KIN 4940B credits (1-3) to serve as a peer mentor / guide for students completing foundational training or learning the skill. This peer-to-peer instruction is a hallmark of the Cydekick program.

Level 3: Become a CydeKick Program Leader
  • Enroll with our team as a Cydekick Intern to take on leadership roles within the program. Program leaders will work with faculty and grad students and play more tangible roles in research and outreach.
