Walk with Ease in the Community
Communities have increasingly asked for help in promoting physical activity as this is a key priority in the Healthy Iowan's plan as well as in the national Active People Healthy Nation initiative.
The Community Connections for Public Health (www.ccph.iastate.edu) is designed to support community level programming in collaboration with wellness works. A number of counties partner with CCPH through a linked service learning course and we have extended this model to provide support for counties interested in promoting the Spring into Summer initiative in a more specific way. How Does it Work?
The ISU Walk with Ease program provides access to group, self-directed and hybrid versions of WWE for older adults (60+); however, the 'Spring into Summer' version is a customized version is designed to facilitate and support community-wide efforts at promoting physical activity.
We have developed this online version of the program to be easy to manage and promote in your community.
We handle all facets of registration and programming through our online portal but rely on county partners to take the initiative to further enhance the programming. Communities can promote engagement in churches, worksites or other organizations. They can also sponsor and support group walking events or provide local incentives or promotions. The level and direction of desired programming is up to you and can change over time.
